My apologies to all yogiwade listeners. I understand there were some practices that came up as repeats from the previous weeks posts.
Just an update to everyone: My name is Diane and my husband is the one and only Yogi Wade! The task of posting the practices has recently been handed to me. I am very new to this game, but am dedicated to learning to get it right! My thanks goes out to Kara and John and Jon who have done all the posting in the past!
So without further ado…tonights class was a take on a full moon/new moon class. We moved at a slow pace and most of the practice is done sitting or lying on your mat. The practice begins like many practices end and continues to move gently. It’s a practice to help us remember that it doesn’t always have to be fast-paced to get a great workout. So unroll you mat, change gears and enjoy a practice according to the moon……

This is a “New Moon” class. In Ashtanga yogi you don’t practice on Full Moon’s or New Moon’s, but yoga in Ohiopyle is still in effect. These Moon classes offer deep stretching and a slow mellow pace. Allowing for plenty of focus for your breath.
Towards the end of the class you will hold sitting forward bend for 5 minutes. This is not really difficult, but wanted to offer a disclaimer so you can move into the pose at a gentle pace. Enjoy.
The pace of this class is a little slower than average. Wade reminds us of why were are here…..to challenge the mind to focus on the breath for 90 minutes! and not just move the body thru a series of stretches and strengthening poses.
Wade takes things down a notch by starting the poses in their easiest form and progressively making them more challenging in each subsequent pose. It's a great class if you are just beginning, as Wade careful explains the poses and points out small technical details. There are also some difficult poses for more seasoned yogis, and of course you are welcome to make it as challenging as you want–just let your breath be your guide. You'll work the entire body, hamstrings, shoulders, abs, back…you name it. Another great class.

Its the full moon, and subsequently, Wade presents a Long Slow Deep class. Poses that come to fruition with time, not heat. I hate to call this class "easy" because that’s not a fair description- in many ways this is a very challenging class. In any event, it is one of my favorites.

From Kara: Tonight we did a “Full Moon” class, which means that we don’t do the vinyasa style yoga (with all the Sun Salutations) that we normally do. And being a total lunar eclipse (across the US) we paid special tribute to that occurrence. The best way to describe this class is that we kinda started at the end and finished at the beginning. Class started with poses like Plow and Shoulder Stand, so be careful to take it easy b/c you won’t be as warmed up as usual for these poses. There is a good, hard ab section, and many twisting poses. Seems like we spent a lot of time on our backs, so overall this class was kinda opposite from our “normal” class where I feel like we stand more than spend time on the mat.

Tonight (at least the night this was recorded) is a full moon class- meaning that it is a little less taxing than some workouts. This particular version is a modified "long slow deep" class that never goes to standing poses. A great recovery workout, or a good way to unwind after a busy day.

Either you love it or you hate it- Tonight, it’s the infamous Long Slow, Deep. Physically, maybe it’s not the hardest class, but mentally, it can be a real challenge. It’s one of my favorite classes- it’s a great way to wind down after a busy week. Enjoy!

full moon, so to honor the astanga yoga tradition we avoid the push ups and fast paced sun salutations to avoid injury. class starts and ends in resting cobbler pose and you’ll spent 3/4 of the class on the floor. emphasis of this class would be on the lower back and hips. without the fast paced, heat building sun salutations i was worried that i wouldn’t be warm enough to maximize the poses, but concentrating on deep breathing really helped build heat even with the slower pace. a warm room would be a good start as well. it’s a great class to end a long day.

I’m out of town for a week, so I’m going to pull workouts from the archive for Thursday 27th, and Tuesday May 2nd. Thursday is going to be New Moon, so I guess Wade will do something unusual… therefore today’s archived work out is a Long Slow Deep. Enjoy.
