I liked the consistency and flow of this class. For example, we did poses like Airplane, Half Moon and Twisted Half Moon, and then later on we did One legged forward bend, Triangle and Twisted Triangle….I hadn’t really thought about how similar, yet how different those poses were. Wade set up a nice little series of poses that worked well together. We did some lower back work, and of course lots of hamstring stretching. Towards the end of class we did Plow and Shoulder Stand and some relaxing twists. Remember your breath. Enjoy!

They say good things come in 3′s. Or is that bad things?  Well, in this class poses like Snakes (nasty), Peacocks (really nasty), Crows, Tables, Wheels and probably a few that I am forgetting about come in sets of 3, so be warned and pace yourself.  Along with the Peacocks, you’ll do Plow, Shoulder Stand and Headstands, so there are a few inversions to get your blood moving in the other direction. Although this sounds pretty difficult, the class didn’t seem to be too fast paced so it was pretty hackable. See for yourself.

Wade called last Thursday’s session the "honeymoon class" because you "spent so much time with your feet in the air". In that case, I would call this one the "honeymoon’s over" class, because… well because it sounded like a funny joke. Actually, this class will use poses from the first five series of Ashtanga yoga, packed in at quick pace. Basically, you are going to get a quick taste of a lot of different poses, and a ton of vinyasas- so make sure to pace yourself. Enjoy!

If you give this class a try, I highly recommend that you try to do this in a hot room or someplace very warm. Wade held class in the smallest room in the community center (room # 5 or "the torture chamber") and he had several portable heaters going.
Be warned….When Wade advises you to pace yourself….you know you are in for a hard class!  Maybe it was the added heat that made this class a great one, but I think it was more about the approx. 45 minutes that we spent balancing on one leg… tons of Airplane poses. And the fact that we did SPLITS! And that’s where the heat really helped. I found myself going further in poses than I have ever gone before and I felt great the next day as well.  Warm up the room if you can and go for it.

This workout is a keeper. A great class and a total body workout. If there is emphasis on any area, I’d say there are quite a few twisting poses and side bending postures, so you really work the sides of your body.  Wade keeps things interesting by finding new and unique ways to get from one pose to another. It’s fun to find yourself in a familiar pose like Half Moon while getting into the pose in an entirely new way. Class starts out with a bang, as Wade leads you through some heat building push-ups (there were a lot of moans and groans in class that might not come through the recording), but of course, as Wade always reminds you…..go at your own pace, be smart, know your limits, keep that yogi breath (or groan along with the class if you want too).  You’ll be guided through headstand in this class, so clear some room if you want to give it a try.

update: Just to clarify who everyone is….Wade is our instructor, yogi, guru, teacher. He is the talent. Wade has a day job and teaches this class, (by donation only) two nights a week in an old school converted to a community center in Ohiopyle, PA.
My husband, John and I (we just had the baby) are just students….practicing yogis at best, who thought that recording this class and posting a downloadable Podcast was a great way to share our great fortune of experiencing Wade’s classes with everyone. We record when we can make it to class and the devices are working properly, and John posts the recordings as soon as he has time. So enjoy the Podcast, and if you are in the Ohiopyle area, come join us. -Kara
